Why do they keep trying to make an American Great British Baking Show?

ABC is trying yet again to remake The Great British Baking Show as The Great American Baking Show: Holiday Edition, but seriously, why do they bother? I caught five minutes of it last night and even with Paul Hollywood on board it is just not. The. Same. It is, in fact, awful. I don’t know what it is about Americans baking in a tent but it just doesn’t work. Even the promo doesn’t work:

  1. Wow, you are SO right! I forced myself to get through the first challenge, so I watched about ten minutes more than you did, and believe me, it only kept getting worse. Everything about it was awful, and I would swear that the contestants are really all actors playing roles. And it was particularly horrible seeing the hosts trying and failing to replicate the kind of easy banter that the British hosts have. What a terrible, terrible mess all the way around!

  2. Cardo, I totally agree about the contestants…they either seemed like actors or some casting director’s idea of what “America looks like,” with a lot of “types” represented. That’s fine and all but it certainly didn’t make the show feel natural. I wish the network would just buy the syndication rights to the British show so I could watch that on TV and not on Netflix!!! So sorry this was disappointing.
