So of course you can barely move on the Internet these days without tripping over a story about Prince Harry and his engagement to American actress Meghan Markle. So I asked Jackie, our British Secret Weapon, what the feeling actually seems to be about the engagement (and Markle) in the UK:
Jackie: The news about Meghan Markle is generally quite positive. People are excited that there is going to be another Royal wedding – and that there is actually some positive news amongst all the terrible stuff! I think most people are just pleased Harry has found someone that makes him so happy. In the beginning there was a bit of gossip about the fact she’s American, but more was made about her being an actress and appearing in some racy scenes. I like the Royal family, but am not obsessed in the way some people are. I do love the tradition of it all though. A couple of years ago I was lucky enough to win a ballot of tickets to the Garter ceremony in Windsor Castle. I got to stand within a few metres of all the Royals. The atmosphere was amazing! Thanks, Jackie! And now I’m going to go and try to get over my jealousy that Jackie got to go to the Order of the Garter ceremony.
