Our British Secret Weapon on: Christmas TV in the UK, 2017 edition.

So this week I asked Jackie, our British Secret Weapon, what TV she’s most looking forward to over the holidays. And below is what she answered!

“Christmas is normally a great time for watching British television and this year is no exception.

I’m most excited about the BBC’s adaption of The Miniaturist, to be aired on Boxing Day at 9pm. I read the novel by Jessie Burton and loved it! It’s set in Amsterdam in 1686 and is full of period atmosphere and intrigue. I’m looking forward to seeing how the story of the miniaturist and his creepy dolls house is captured on the screen.

Another Christmas staple in recent years has been the adaptation of David Walliams’ books for children. This year it’s the turn of ‘Grandpa’s Great Escape’. It’s lovely to get the whole family watching these funny stories together.

I’m also looking forward to the Christmas Bake Off Special. Past participants from the show are coming back to make Christmas treats. It will be interesting to see how they interact with the new Channel 4 hosts.

There are lots of other Christmas specials this year – including a show to celebrate 30 years of French and Sauders; Rowan Atkinson returning in Georges Simenon’s Maigret in Montmarte; and of course the annual dose of Dr Who and Call the Midwife.

If that isn’t enough Radio Times have created a list of the Best Christmas Specials available to watch online!

I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and a fantastic 2018!”

Jackie also made some great suggestions last year for Christmas viewing; check those out as well! And I would add my wishes to hers, that you are having a very happy holiday season.
