Our British Secret Weapon on: Ant McPartlin.

Recently I set my Internet homepage to Yahoo UK, and my life has gotten a lot better as a result. Now instead of facing daily stories about Trump and American politics, I get daily stories about Brexit and the Royal Family. And yes, I know Brexit is a big mess. I really just click on the Royal Family stories.

I also get a lot of headlines about someone named Ant McPartlin, who is most often simply referred to as “Ant.” As in, “Ant McPartlin’s ex Lisa Armstrong insists it was HER who ‘saved him’, not new love Anne Marie Corbett,” etc. I have never heard of Anthony McPartlin*, so I thought I would ask Jackie, our British Secret Weapon, who he is, and this is what she had for us:

“Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly are very famous in the UK. They first came to our screens about 30 years, as child actors in the kids TV programme Byker Grove. As part of this series they made a pop song, which became very popular and was then released. This turned them into accidental pop stars. After a few years as teen heartthrobs, they moved onto presenting. They started out on Saturday morning children’s TV, but soon progressed to prime time. Over the years they’ve presented lots of Britain’s favourite shows, including Pop Idol, I’m a Celebrity and Britain’s Got Talent. They’ve even got their own Saturday evening show called Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway. They’re so popular they’ve won Best Presenter at the British National Television Awards for the last 18 years in a row!

It was a massive shock that Ant, one of these happy, seemingly squeaky-clean presenters caused a car crash whilst drink-driving. His battle with alcohol addiction and his subsequent divorce have kept him in the news, but after a year off he seems to have recovered and is now back presenting with Dec. Hopefully, they will have many more years of great presenting ahead of them!”

So now you (and I) know! Thanks, Jackie!

*I still remember a time when, after looking at a million “People” magazine covers in the grocery store, I finally asked someone, “Who are these Kardashians, anyway?” Ah, life before I knew who the Kardashians were. It was a simpler time.
