It’s going to be an exciting autumn in British TV. Are you ready for it?
First: Are you watching the BBC’s/HBO’s series His Dark Materials? What are your thoughts so far?
And: Will you be going to see the new movie The New Liar, starring Helen Mirren and Ian McKellen?
And will you be watching any of these series, streaming on a variety of services, during November?
And, this is not for autumn, but it’s very exciting nonetheless: the actors of Derry Girls are going to film a Great British Bake-Off episode!
Have a great weekend, all.
I was very impressed by the first episode of His Dark Materials. It’s such a complex book, but they’re somehow managing to capture it all. I hope that the rest of the series is just as good.
So glad to hear you’re enjoying it! I thought the link I posted on Tuesday was interesting–UK reviewers were quite positive, US critics less so.
I could take or leave the series source material, but I did love the books and adaptations of Pullman’s “Ruby in the Smoke” series–thought they did a really nice job with that. And also, I’ll watch anything starring James McAvoy and Ruth Wilson–so I’ll put this one on the TBW list eventually!!
