That’s right, actor/writer/producer/musician/hunk Idris Elba was born on this day (September 6) in 1972, in Hackney, London. A birthday post outlining what this gentleman has done in his storied career would be a very long one. Some highlights include his role as police detective John Luther in the crime drama Luther, the very enjoyable and surprisingly gentle sitcom In the Long Run, and his turn as Charles Miner in the American version of The Office. I also really loved him in Guy Ritchie’s movie RocknRolla, but I am also a sucker for all things Guy Ritchie. So what has Mr. Elba been up to during the past year? Well, he got married in April. (I know, sigh. I know it’s not nice to wait out marriages, but you know, nobody’s ever accused me of being over-nice.) He played a DJ in a new Netflix series, Turn Up Charlie. He’s going to be in Cats, and he starred in the movie Hobbs and Shaw with Jason Statham. He’s currently filming an indie movie titled Concrete Cowboys. He dealt with a lot of press speculation about whether or not he would become the new James Bond. And, oh yeah, there was that little matter of being named People magazine’s Sexiest Man of 2018. Amen, People magazine. And last but certainly not least, not only did he find the time to be in a play in Manchester, he also helped the paramedics get to an audience member who was having a seizure. Yup, I’m in love. Happy birthday, Idris Elba!
