British star of both large and small screen, Benedict Cumberbatch, was born on this day (July 19) in 1976. Happy Birthday, Benedict Cumberbatch!
Mr. Cumberbatch has had quite the professional year. It was just announced that he’ll play a lead role in the TV drama Brexit, which will air in 2019. On TV he played the title character in the coming-of-age drama Patrick Melrose, as well as the father in the heartbreaking drama (based on the Ian McEwan novel of the same title) The Child in Time. In movie theaters, he reprised his Doctor Strange role in Avengers: Infinity War and Thor: Ragnarok. Cumberbatch fans also won’t be lonely in years to come: he’ll appear in several future projects, including the films Let It Fall Back and Rogue Male. And, rumors have it he’s “keen” to do another series of Sherlock.
He kept busy otherwise too. In June he gave a reading at Stephen Hawking’s Westminster Abbey memorial service. Shortly before that he played a real-life action hero and saved a London cyclist from being mugged. And here’s the totally sigh-worthy piece of news: he pledged not to take acting jobs unless his female co-stars received equal pay.
What’s your favorite Cumberbatch role? Do you think he’ll be back in another Sherlock? Let’s celebrate his 42nd birthday by discussing these burning issues in the comments!
