Brit Telly Headlines: 19 December 2017.

A selection of British TV news from the past week:

Ian McKellen wants to reprise his role as Gandalf for the new Amazon adaptation of The Lord of the Rings.

Victoria, season 3: has been confirmed.

New on Netflix: The Windsors.

The BBC is going to produce a “definitive” documentary on the Harvey Weinstein scandal.

Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency has been canceled, after two seasons.

On the fictional character Alan Partridge, by the actor who portrayed him.

NBC is developing an American remake of Graham Linehan’s The IT Crowd. My money’s on them completely messing it up. What do you think?

What to watch for the holidays? Perhaps a replay of season 1 of Victoria? Here’s an updated synopsis for the forthcoming Dr. Who Christmas special; and here are British Christmas specials around the dial. Also don’t forget to read last week’s post from Jackie, our British Secret Weapon, about what she’ll be watching this year.

What to listen to for the holidays? Ten more British Christmas songs.

Have a great week watching (British) TV!

  1. Oh yeah, I totally agree that any American remake of The IT Crowd (especially by NBC) will be a disaster. I also read yesterday that they are looking to resurrect The Office yet again. What’s next — Skins version 3?

NBC can’t get anything British correct — last night on the news they showed the new Christmas photo of Prince William and his family and commented on how much Princess Charlotte “looks like her grandmother, the Queen”. (Although I do admit it is hard to think of Lady Diana as actually being the grandmother.)

  2. Cardo!
Why would ANYONE try to remake The IT Crowd? Talk about a perfectly unique little gem that just needs to be left alone!

I did not see that about The Office; that news makes me shudder. I know the American version had many fans and jumpstarted many careers, but I could never get too into it…spent all my time just re-watching the British version!

NBC ha…having problems with basic family relationships. Way to go network news.
